Model UN visits UN CSW60

The sixtieth session of the  Commission on the Status of Women will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 14 to 24 March 2016. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is a global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Commission was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946 with a mandate to prepare recommendations on promoting women’s rights in political, economic, civil, social and educational fields.


On Sunday, March 13th 7 students from our Model UN at Ursuline Academy along with faculty moderator Jacqueline Wanner and faculty chaperone Meg Kane-Smith traveled to New York to begin 4 days of collaboration with students & faculty from five other Ursuline network schools: Academy of Mt St Ursula, Ursuline Academy of Dallas, St. Louis, Dedham, and St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati.  The group of 36 students and their chaperones attended the Youth Orientation Day at John Jay College to start off the Commision on the Status of Women, CSW 60.  





The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 Memorial and museum as well as the Ground Zero site.
